As a Grade XY replacement filter element it holds the contamination its housing is placed to catch, rated at 1 µm. The element belongs in the position the original element occupied. Removing the bulk of the liquid here is what lets the downstream element do its job. Dimensions follow the original, so it installs into the existing housing without modification.
