Description
The Locator is a hand-held ultrasonic leak-detection instrument used to find compressed-air leaks in pressurised piping, fittings, valves and equipment. The pistol-grip housing carries a heterodyne receiver tuned across the 20-100 kHz range, where the turbulence of escaping air produces a distinctive ultrasonic signature. Operators sweep the sensor over the suspect area and use a 10-segment LED bar and noise-isolating headset to home in on the leak. Sensitivity is adjustable across eight steps, response time is 300 milliseconds, and the unit is powered by a 9 V alkaline battery with a low-battery indicator.
